Today’s post is all about minky projects, to be more specific my minky projects. I thought I might share a bit more of a personal blog post this time, and show you some of the things that I’ve made from minky, to help inspire you to create all kinds of things from our lovely fabric.
Cloth nappies
I’ve been making cloth nappies for nearly eight years now, although it’s been a bit more recently that I started to make them using minky fabric. In fact a cloth nappy was one of the first minky projects that I ever attempted. Since then I’ve made all manner of cloth nappies with decorative minky outers. I’ve not got an embroidery machine, so I tend to do hand guided appliqué onto the minky. You can find some of my creations on my Nappyneedz website.
Small minky projects
I’ve made a few smaller items from lovely soft minky fabric, the smallest minky projects that I’ve ever done have been these tiny cloth nappies, that aren’t much bigger than my thumb, just a bit of fun, and a bit tricky to sew.
Not quite so small were my minky wallets, I decided to make these when I wanted something for myself that was lovely and soft and make of minky just for me. My own walet is a funky, minky print and always gets lots of comments when I’m out and about.
Large minky projects
This weekend I undertook one of the largest minky projects that I’ve ever attempted. It might be a bit of an indulgence, but when I was looking for a fabric to cover this new seating area in my son’s newly decorated bedroom, I couldn’t resist our lovely lava splash minky. My son loves red, and this is his favourite of our tie dye minky fabrics. I think it looks really cool, and it feels fantastic too.
What minky projects have you been working on recently?
When my son was a few months old I decided to make him a playmat/blanket made from minky that you can get from spotlight, it was the first thing I have sewn, ever! It is definitely not perfect and I have learnt lots since but Im still pretty proud of it and we cuddle under it a lot!
can the design follow all forms of the house?
I’m sorry, I don’t really understand what you mean.
