Buying fabric online can be quite difficult. How do you know if the photo that you’re looking at matches the fabric closely? How are you going to know what it feels like when you can’t touch it? What happens if it arrives and it’s not really what you were after? Here are our top tips for buying online.
Tips for buying fabric online
- Buy from a recognised brand. If you are looking for the best minky fabric, then look for a brand such as Shannon fabrics or our own brand minky.
- Ask about colours. It’s hard to get an exact match when it comes to colours and shades on a computer. If you ask, I can show you photos with different items to get a better idea.
- Find out about swatches. We’re usually happy to send out swatches of different fabrics for you to look at.
- Read the description. We try to include information such as how stretchy something is, the width of the roll and length of the pile.
- Look for what other people have used it for. This often gives a good idea of what a fabric is like. We try and share photos on our Facebook page.
- Buy a small bit, to begin with. All of our fabric is available in 50 x 50 cm cuts as well as meter lengths.
- Buy from somewhere that accepts returns. We are happy to exchange or refund for any fabric that isn’t what you’re looking for if you send it back in like new condition.
- Ask questions. We’re always happy to answer any questions you might have about our fabrics and other products.
Buying from websites
Buying fabric on the internet from specialist websites gives you much more choice. Most people only have one or two fabric shops locally and often the range that these stock is limited. By looking at websites around the country or even around the world you suddenly have the chance to access a much bigger range. At Minkylicious, we stock specialised fabric such as our minky and nappy making fabrics. It is unlikely that you will find most of these in your local fabric store. Check out our full range here.
