If you are planning on making a sandwich wrap or lunch bag, then you may be wondering why choose food safe PUL? If you are only going to be using it yourself, does it really matter? What are the advantages of food safe fabrics?
What is food safe PUL?
Our food safe PUL, which you can find here, differs from most other PUL fabrics on the market, in a number of ways. First of all, it is specifically designed to be used on items that are to be used with food. Furthermore, unlike other similar fabrics, it wasn’t designed to be used in cloth nappies or medical applications. To ensure that it’s suitable for this, the fabric has been tested. The food safe fabric that we stock is manufactured in the US. Our manufacturers have had it tested to meet US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations. While some fabrics make contain elements that are generally considered to be safe, but they have not been tested to see if they are indeed safe. You can be sure that our fabric is safe due to the testing that it undergoes.
What should I use it for
Our food safe PUL is perfect for using on any items that will be in contact with food. It has been tested to ensure that it will not impart any toxic or harmful chemicals into the food that it touches. If you are looking to make a sandwich wrap (you can find instructions here) lunch bag, or any item that goes next to food, then this is ideal.
Like other PUL fabrics, food safe PUL is waterproof. This means that it will stop our sandwiches from getting wet from other food items. It will also keep them fresh, in the same way that a disposable plastic wrap will. As the fabric is machine washable, you can wash and reuse the sandwich wraps or lunch bags. Better for the environment and better for your wallet.
Why choose food safe PUL
You might not think that it really matters if the item is just for you and your family. Choosing something that has been tested and is safe is always a good idea. You can, therefore, be sure that no chemicals will taint any food that you use with it. Food safe PUL is safe to use and works well. It seems like the obvious choice for food related items.
I hope to have another tutorial using one of our fabrics soon. In the meantime, feel free to share any photos of sandwich wraps and other items you make on our facebook page.
