Here at minkylicious, we love our minky fabric (big surprise lol) there’s so much that you can do with it, so I thought that I should share some uses of minky fabric with you all. I’d love to hear what you’ve used it for, and if you’ve got any uses for minky fabric to share with us, please comment at the bottom.
Ten great uses for minky fabric
1. Cloth nappies
Because it comes in heaps of great patterns, prints and colours, washes well and being polyester doesn’t soak up liquid, minky is great as a decorative outer fabric layer on modern cloth nappies. You can use minky on it’s own, with an pretty appliqué design, or if you have an embroidery machine, with a pretty embroidered pattern. The only real limitation is your imagination and creativity.
2. Children’s clothing
It might not be one of the first things you think of when trying to come up with uses for minky fabric, but it really does lend itself to being used for children’s clothing. It’s soft , washes well, comes in cool patterns and is lovely and warm for winter.
3.Baby bibs
For the same reasons that minky works well for children’s clothing and cloth nappies, it also lends itself to baby bibs. Nice and soft for you baby if you have a bit of dribbler and easy to care for.
4. Quilting
Are you into quilting? Looking for a beautiful fabric with an interesting texture to incorporate into your work? How about minky? It works well and looks great in some quilts.
5. Baby blanket
One of the easiest to make uses for minky fabric is a baby blanket. You can make it double sided with two different layers of minky fabric, or back with fleece or even cotton. Soft and warm it makes an ideal baby blanket.
6. Teddy bears
As minky fabric is soft and cuddly, it makes it ideal to use for teddy bears and other soft toys. You can even make your items in different colours to the traditional teddy bear brown with the choice that is available with minky fabric.
7. Baby toys
Very much like teddy bears, one of the great uses for minky fabric, is baby toys. The soft pile of minky means that it’s lovely and soft for your little ones hands.
8. Hats and scarves
Because it’s warm and fluffy minky fabric is ideal for use when making hats and scarves. It won’t fray when cut, so it makes it quite easy to sew into simple objects such as hats and scarves.
9. Home furnishing
Minky fabric makes lovely soft fluffy cushions and pillows, and some of the bright patterns can make quite bright, striking accent pieces to complement your décor.
10. Bags, purses and wallets
For a bag, purse or wallet with a difference, how about making it out of minky? Soft and fluffy, it makes a tactile and interesting looking piece.
Love the baby toy idea.
