Do you want to attach plastic snaps but aren’t sure what you will need to do it with? Here we look at the different options so that you can choose the best one for you.
Snap pliers
Snap pliers are the simplest and easiest solution for adding plastic KAM snaps to items. They are lightweight and portable, which means that if you need to repair something on the go, the pliers can go with you to do the job. They also don’t need different dies for the studs and sockets, which makes them very easy to use. The only real disadvantage with the pliers is that you have to squeeze them to apply the snap. This means that if you lack strength in your hands it can be difficult. It also means that you might not get as firm an application as you would with a snap press. If you are looking to add snaps to something that you are going to sell, then a press would be a better option.
We have two snap pliers to choose from. The KAM pliers and our cheaper unbranded dome pliers. The only real difference between these pliers is that the KAM pliers are slightly more comfortable to use. They also have an extra plastic die in the pack, so that you can attach a larger range of sizes. With all of our pliers, we expect them to give you many years of use. If for some reason you do need to replace a part, please get in touch as we often have spares in stock.
Snap press
If you are looking to attach a lot of snaps, or are going to be making an item to sell, then a snap press is your best option. We currently stock two presses. The DK 93, which has screw-in dies for the snaps and comes with a range of different dies that you can buy for different sized snaps and for metal snaps and grommets. We have also now got the DK 98 snap press. This is a slightly heavier snap press. If you are looking to attach it to your workbench, then it might be the best choice for you. The dies for this press are fixed with a small key which is operated with an Allen key. At the moment we only have the size 20 die set for this, which is the most popular size, but we can get more in for you should you need them.
How to attach plastic snaps
Once you have your press or pliers, then attaching snaps is easy. Plastic snaps give a really professional finish to your projects and they are much more cost-effective than sew-on buttons or some other snap options.
