Description
Hemp fleece is a great option when you are making cloth nappies, highly absorbent and yet fairly trim, hemp fleece makes fantastic cloth nappies, inserts and boosters.
Hemp Fleece fabric
Our hemp fleece fabric is exactly the same as our hemp french terry fabric, but the loops have been brushed out to give a soft fleecy layer. Although the two sides of the fabric are different, there isn’t really a ‘right’ side to our hemp fleece, it’s really up to you which layer goes on the outside of the fabric. This is a knit fabric, so will have some stretch to it, although it is not very stretchy. Our fabric is approximately 200 cm wide.
Organic cotton and hemp
Our hemp fleece is made up of 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton and has a weight of 340 gsm when manufactured. As the fabric will shrink slightly when washed for the first time, this gsm will increase slightly. Hemp is usually mixed with another fibre to make it more stable and stop it from breaking down or wearing out quickly. The organic cotton is an ideal natural fibre to mix with the hemp, and makes it a great absorbent fabric.
Very absorbent
Hemp fabric is very absorbent, and our hemp fleece is no different. Most fabrics need prewashing before use, and with hemp this is even more important. The fabric will shrink slightly, but it will also get more absorbent. Hemp needs a little time to reach it’s full absorbency and it will be anywhere up to seven washes before it’s up to it’s full capacity. The super absorbent qualities of hemp fleece mean that it is ideal for use in cloth nappies, particularly night nappies, which need the extra capacity.
