KAM snaps are great, they give a really professional finish and once attached they stay in place. The only problem with this is that once they are attached, they stay in place. Not great if you make a mistake or want to remove an old snap. What should you do if you need to replace one, or remove it? Here’s out tips for removing KAM snaps.
Ways of removing KAM snaps
- You will need to brake the snap, or at least the cap part in order to remove it.
- This will usually leave a hole in the fabric, so be sure that you want to remove it first.
- You can clip away the cap with scissors or nail clippers, be carefully not to damage the fabric.
- The post through the centre holds the cap and the socket or stud together. If you can remove it, the snap will come off.
- Drilling very carefully through the centre of the snap will release the two parts.
- A very hot metal rod could melt the centre of the snap.
- Placing the snap sideways in a snap press can break it off, although this could damage the press if you aren’t careful
- Snap removal pliers are the easiest way to do the job.

Even if you very rarely need to remove snaps, it might be worth considering getting a set of snap removal pliers, simply because they make a difficult job much easier.
