Washable nappy liners are one of the easiest things that you can make for your baby’s cloth nappies. you don’t need to be able to sew, just have a pair of scissors.
Fabric for washable nappy liners
When it comes to washable liners, you ideally want a fabric that will allow liquid to pass through but catch any solids. Our microfleece fabric is ideal for this. Available in a range of colours. You can either choose your favourite shade, stick to basic black or white. If you like you can even make a range of colours to match your nappies. This inexpensive reusable option is better for the environment and your purse than disposable liners.
Making the liners
When it comes to making liners, there are no hard and fast rules. Make what works for you. Some people like smaller liners that just cover the ‘danger area.’ Other people like to go for a larger size that covers the whole nappy. You might want to think about making a liner that is wider at the back. This will give better coverage in this area. If you are using a rash cream on your baby, then a liner that covers the whole area that you are using the cream on will help to protect the nappy. As microfleece is a knit fabric you don’t need to worry about it fraying. Cutting a shape with normal scissors will be enough and it shouldn’t come undone.
Advantage of reusable liners
Washable nappy liners are a great choice. Not only are they reusable, meaning that you don’t have to keep spending money on new ones, but they also work better in some ways than disposable ones. Microfleece allows moisture to pass through easily but feel dry to the touch. Some parents find that a large microfleece overnight, actually helps their baby to sleep for longer.
If you want to make liners yourself, then you can find white microfleece here. We also have black microfleece or a range of other colours.
