There are lots of types of minky fabric from smooth and printed minky to ribbon or dimple dot minky. But what exactly are these different types of minky? What does it all mean?
Different types of minky fabric
- Smooth minky is minky without any patterns or markings on it. Made in a range of colours, it makes an ideal base for all kinds of items.
- Dimple dot minky is very similar to smooth minky, usually made in a solid colour, it has raised dots all over the fabric. It gives the fabric an interesting texture and feel.
- Ribbon Minky actually has some of the pile cut out of it. It is cut into ribbons, so that there are ridges of minky fabric, almost like a corduroy fabric, although much wider and softer.
- Print Minky feels just like smooth minky to touch, but rather than having one solid colour, this has all kinds of patterns and designs printed onto it. Our tie-dye fabrics fit into this category too.
- Super Plush Minky has a very thick pile, beautifully soft and fluffy it’s ideal for soft toys and other items that need a longer pile.
Most of the different types of minky can be used for different projects interchangeably. They are great for all kinds of items, from baby item and cloth nappies to soft furnishings and decorative items with lots of other things in between.

Hi there. I was wondering if you stock minky PUL? I bought some off a fabric destash page but have no idea where to buy more? Also, is there differences with it? I have some fluffy PUL on a few nappies (that I thought was also minky) but is a lot less stretchy than the stuff I bought from the destash page. Any thoughts?
Hi, I don’t currently stock minky PUL, mostly because I haven’t found any that is good enough quality. Minky does come in a range of stretchyness, with the less good quality usually being more stretchy and thinner than the good stuff. Hope that helps a bit?
Thanks
